Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Architect: Atkins

Due for completion in 2031-2035, Kenya’s Nairobi Railway City has recently begun construction, and a groundbreaking ceremony was recently held to commemorate the occasion. This is around six months after representatives of the UK and Kenyan governments announced the development’s final architectural concept at the Serena Hotel.

The main canopy will open into a newly formed area and be constructed next to the station, one of the city’s first stone structures.

It would be topped with a sloping roof supported by a steel frame and connected to a comparable canopy on the opposite side of the rails by a bridge. The building’s form was influenced, claims the studio, by central African Boma enclosures.
