The Pilgrims Oasis is a hotel and residential complex designed to enhance the devotional journey of Muslim pilgrims visiting Makkah. The development includes accommodation, retail areas, recreational facilities, and a mosque, all seamlessly integrated around plazas, courtyards, and avenues inspired by the traditional Makkah and Arab city fabric and architecture. The design approach is from the inside out, carving open spaces out of the dense whole to create a contemporary interpretation of Makkah culture and heritage that extends to fit a modern and contemporary world and context. The development reflects the very heart of Islam, providing a place of community and shelter for the more than two million people who visit Makkah annually, with the figure projected to soar. The Pilgrims Oasis breaks the mixed-up mold of high-rise towers and high-density housing by showing how architecture can play a huge part in creating an inspiring space, by designing themed buildings that allow for personal and collective experiences for those who live, work, or visit. The development is a compelling mixed-use development that provides a contemporary proposition while reflecting the prevailing Makkah character, topography, and climate.
