The SB Hotel in Barcelona’s Poblenou neighbourhood was designed by architects Enric Batlle and Joan Roig for SB Hotels Spain. The 4-star superior hotel occupies a chamfered corner site and an entire edge of a street block, with three basement floors for parking, machine rooms and storage, and hotel rooms on the other floors. The eighth floor has suites and a large terrace, while the roof floor has a swimming pool, sun deck, gymnasium, and bar/terrace area with great views of the city. The building’s four facades have large, vertically arranged windows set in textured microcement panels, with partitions for privacy. The ground floor shows off its structure in the form of triangular pilasters. The hotel has several landscaped courtyards that provide daylight and ventilation for lounges, meeting rooms, and a large dining room on the first basement floor. The space surrounding the building at the rear overlooks the Fàbrica Pons complex in the form of the terrace of the ground-floor bar, as well as creating a space that is integrated with the other free spaces in the city block. The project was completed in 2017 and involved collaboration with Laura Quintana for architecture, Joan Batlle for landscape, Yago Cavaller for agricultural engineering and environmentalism, and contractors SB Immobiliaria and Navasa Construcciones y Estructuras, SL. The project was photographed by Antonio Navarro Wijkmark.
