The most recent bicycle parking in Amsterdam is not just underground, but also underwater. The public can park their bicycles at the new Stationsplein facility in front of Amsterdam Central Station starting at the end of January. This point signified the completion of the five-year project for the wUrck architects.

The new bicycle parking area is simple to use. City maps from the city’s early days to the present are displayed on the glass front of the curved wall, which is named the Horizon. These miniature city maps are created from photographs and paintings that highlight the relationship between Amsterdam and the water. The spherical lighting fixtures in the ceiling above the main passage of the Oculi maintain this pattern (the colonnade). The Oculi and the Horizon both provide the user with a feeling of orientation. The Amsterdam Museum and wUrck collaborated extensively to choose these photos and create the maps.
