The prestigious International Architecture Award of 2022 was given to The Diamond Exchange, Capital C Amsterdam in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The historically significant structure, which has been designated a national monument, underwent a considerable refurbishment created by the architectural studio ZJA in partnership with Heyligers architects and has now reclaimed its former attractiveness.

The eye-catching “High Light” dome made of glass and steel tops the Dutch monument. The most prominent and established international building awards program is the International Architecture Award. It is considered a premier award in architecture and is granted yearly by the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

The Amsterdam Diamond Exchange, constructed in 1911, has been turned into a hub for the creative sector. The structure underwent extensive renovations to mostly return to the original Gerrit van Arkel design in order to properly restore the monument’s original features. The refurbishment involved the erection of a glass and steel dome as well as the preservation of the building’s historic features and interior adaption for use as a contemporary, adaptable office space. A unifying theme throughout the structure is art and design.
