The Longpeng Ceramic Museum in Dehua County, China, showcases the 3700-year history of porcelain making in the region. The museum’s design focuses on the symbiotic relationship between nature and space, with a preserved ancient riverbed and natural stones placed throughout the space. An earthen wall runs through the entire space, connecting local symbols of millennia of civilization and reshaping the advocacy of nature in the space. The museum also incorporates traditional Chinese five elements into an overall hollow window, giving the space more diversified ceramic cultural concepts. The giant natural stone mined using local traditional craftsmanship represents the rough vitality in nature and brings a strong visual impact. The museum’s large area of white space creates a simple space structure, guiding the dialogue between the audience and the space. The specially designed lighting not only displays the artwork but also plays the function of light and shadow transformation in the space, making the whole space full of vitality. The Longpeng Ceramic Museum has preserved the most traditional ceramic skills in Dehua and puts the public welfare spirit and social responsibility of art in the first place, practicing culture and reflecting value through communication. The museum aims to promote Chinese traditional ceramic culture with an open and inclusive attitude.
