Location: Cambridge, England

Architect: Scott Brownrigg

On the famed Cambridge Science Park, a spectacular new 210,000-square-foot gateway development has been finished. For Trinity College and TUS Park, the gateway building was created by international architectural firm Scott Brownrigg and developed by property consultants Bidwells.

The development, known as Building 1&2, is the last of Cambridge Science Park’s original five-building plan, which was finished by TusPark and Trinity. The project consists of 380,000 square feet of commercial space that is intended to support and promote the expansion of high-tech and life science businesses.

A rhythmic façade system is created by the entry colonnade fins laying flat against the side elevations. Each building’s breadth varies between these to provide office spaces with enough natural light without going above solar gain.

The design makes the buildings transparent while also adding a new space for the public realm between them. The building has a BREEAM Excellent rating, is incredibly versatile, and is 90% efficient (NIA/GIA), and it also helps the Park’s sustainability objective.
