Location: Shenzhen, China.
Architect: Mecanoo.
The Hengli Group Headquarters in Shenzhen, China, will be the world’s largest weaving enterprise and will showcase the city’s focus on public life and green design. Designed by Mecanoo, the building is composed of two volumes with a commercial plinth and a 238m high tower. The volumes expand and contract to accommodate public space and vegetation on different levels, and the plinth is carved out to create a sense of scale and increase permeability at ground level. The ground floor urban square leads to the main entrances and links pedestrian routes through the site, connecting shops and catering facilities from different levels. The tower is mainly occupied by offices and cultural facilities, with a shopping mall on the third and fourth floors and a museum on the fifth floor. The lower volume is dedicated to commerce, featuring retail areas, restaurants, cafes, and a generous atrium for various events. The building’s design celebrates the city’s outdoor lifestyle with a restaurant, shops, and leisure areas on the fifth level, which overlooks the city. The tower steps back gradually with a series of green roofs and terraces, connecting users to nature and offering panoramic views of Shenzhen Bay. Vegetation cascading down the facade will purify the air and improve the indoor environment. The building’s design reflects the city’s ambitious urban policies, which focus on the quality of public life and innovative green design.
