Location: Jiading district, Shanghai, People’s Republic of China
Architect: Kokaistudios
The largest delivery facility operated by NIO to date adheres to a lifestyle-focused interior design model developed by Kokaistudios for the electric car manufacturer. The structure, which is housed inside of a former factory, has just undergone renovations to become a local landmark thanks to a stunning louvred exterior.
It is the brand’s largest, measuring more than 12,000 square meters, and is situated on the former site of a factory in Jiading district. In addition to constructing a brand-new, iconic front, Kokaistudios also renovated the interiors of the facility’s ground floor public space, giving it a warm, welcome feel. Interiors that are vibrant, open, and heavily focused on hospitality follow a design pattern that Kokaistudios created for NIO last year and exhibited at NIO House in Jinan. These factors come together in Shanghai to deliver on NIO’s user-first ethos while transforming an ordinary industrial site into a striking brand beacon.
A brilliant silver facade is the refurbishment most eye-catching feature. The three buildings’ curved “bridges” are followed by a system of vertical aluminium profile louvers, creating an exterior that undulates and has a coherent flow that seems to move with the viewer. It provides a lot of natural light into the office and visiting area because it effectively acts as an open screen hiding the connected volumes behind. The building’s prominent street presence and distinctive exterior, which resonates with NIO’s brand identity of purity and elegance, turn the building into a neighbourhood landmark.
