Location: Liyang, Jiangsu Province, China.

Architect: CROX Architects.

Completed in 2019, the nature and cultural history of the Chinese city of Liyang served as inspiration for the new museum of Liyang, which is flowing and organic. A new museum that focuses on local history is situated like a pebble next to a lake in the city of Liyang, in the eastern part of China, within a well-planned new urban neighbourhood. The project serves as the centrepiece of this burgeoning area of the city, which is distinguished by its wavy, organic lines and artistic fusion of water, vegetation, and public landscaping. The Jiaoweiqin, a Chinese musical instrument that is also one of the area’s cultural icons, served as the model for the Museum.

In an effort to preserve a delicate balance between architecture and man, CROX built a museum that rests softly on a small, lush slope. The aluminium-clad structure’s curved design integrates seamlessly with its surroundings, and the grounds around it serve as a kind of grand entrance lobby for the inside exhibits, which will centre on the history of the town.
