Location: Spijkenisse, Netherlands.
Architect: UNStudio.
The Theatre Spijkenisse is designed to efficiently accommodate programming needs and public access while also considering the building’s placement and orientation in the urban location. The building’s volumes are placed to take advantage of the natural variations in the site’s levels, and the two main theatre spaces are positioned to receive visitors directly from the foyer and public square. A sculptural stairway connects the foyer to the entrances of the theatre rooms, and the theatre cafe is designed as a third theatre in the form of an amphitheatre, located adjacent to the nearby water.
