The new Savoureuse Cultural and Sports Complex in Giromagny, France is part of a larger project to redevelop a former military site. The building is located on the site of the former administration building and stables, and is surrounded by a park and hiking trails. The two-story building includes a theater, sports hall, library, activity rooms, and offices. The design centers around a double-height hall that serves as a gathering space and circulation hub. The building is designed to be energy-efficient, with a mix of concrete and metal construction, double-skin facades, and geothermal heating and cooling. The outdoor plaza is designed with a strict geometry that is softened by playful elements like benches and bike racks. The landscaping includes local trees and is designed to provide shade and organize the space. The building is a cultural and sports hub for the community, and is designed to be accessible and welcoming to all ages.
