Location: Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.
Architect: Büro Ziyu Zhuang.
The hotel’s spatial organisation follows an axis that runs east to west, establishing a series of various yards. Walls that frame the environment and provide viewfinders along the route help to bring the surrounding area into the hotel. The guest is greeted by the water basins on the ground and the ever-changing eaves that link the building and wall to both the landscape and the sky as they enter the hotel.
Based on this image, the hotel’s spatial organisation follows an axis that runs east to west, establishing a series of various yards. Walls that frame the environment and provide viewfinders along the route help to bring the surrounding area into the hotel. The guest is greeted by the water basins on the ground and the ever-changing eaves that link the building and wall to both the landscape and the sky as they enter the hotel through the bamboos in front of it.
With these allusions, the hotel’s layout and shape are intended to give guests constant access to the nearby lake and Shushan mountain while also creating various settings with the aid of the walls and roof.
