The Prix Archinovo 2016 selection is a house that is designed to integrate harmoniously with the natural topography and urban context of the site. The plot is characterized by a deep proportion compared to its width, with a significant slope towards the back and existing vegetation. The house has three levels that follow the slope of the land, with three concrete arches enclosing the living spaces and creating a play of solids and voids. Each arch has a large opening to the south, providing views of the landscape and significant thermal gain. Two concrete staircases connect the front and back outdoor spaces and the three volumetric arches, acting as a distributive and scenographic backbone for the entire space. The exterior shell is made of smooth concrete, with a mosaic of differently sized openings in the side walls to provide natural lighting to the terraces at different times of the day. The interior wall is painted in a bright yellow color by the client to create a color contrast with the concrete. Overall, the design of the house is a thoughtful and integrated response to the site and context, with careful consideration given to the use of materials and the creation of a dynamic and functional living space.
