The goals of this project included one building that brings order and stability to the area and three programmes (student housing, investor housing, and home ownership). The project’s location is in Paris’ 19th arrondissement. It takes place in the centre of the Flandres neighbourhood, which is easily recognised due to its distinctive design from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, which is primarily made up of big housing structures and towers. Undefined “public-private” boundaries and a lot of green space define the neighbourhood. Between Archereau and Curial streets lies the trapeze-shaped property that is home to the project. The intersection of these two streets creates a tiny square with trees to the south of the plot.
The parcel’s southern edge is viewed as an external prow opening. The apartments on this prow have double heights, big windows, and expansive terraces that face south, giving them a crystal-clear view of Paris. Glass paving is used in the northern gables to offer to light to the stairs. The apartments positioned on the 9th and 10th floors can take advantage of spacious terraces and outdoor areas thanks to the penthouses that rise slightly behind the street façades. The building is improved by these setbacks, which also amplify the rhythmic rhythms already present in the cityscape. Apartments on the upper levels have roof patios that are accessible from inside the unit.
