Location: Limoux, France.
Architect: Ferrier Marchetti Studio.
Through the expansion and renovation of the old site of the tile factory, the cultural complex known as “La Tuilerie” transforms Limoux’s right bank. It’s intended to serve as a significant hub for the département and beyond. The site, which is now accessible to all thanks to this ambitious and varied project, is a location that many people in the town and the surrounding area hold dear to their hearts. This well-known piece of industrial heritage has built up a strong reputation that deserves to be acknowledged.
The La Tuilerie project acquires a distinctive identity rooted in local history by fusing contemporary constructions with historic buildings. It’s obvious that there is a tremendous opportunity to build amazing buildings and a distinctive environment.
The modern and firmly Southern-style architecture of the new cultural centre La Tuilerie is its foundation. Filters that shield buildings from the light and manipulate shadows are the meshes that divide them. Its ochre and brick colours, which also mirror the former intact building fronts, and their mineral nature complement the main Mediterranean architectural features.
