Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Architect: GROUP A.

GROUP A developed a design vision to create a modern metro system that functions adequately, is comprehensibly organised, and is pleasant to use, without denying the brutalist DNA of the metro line or demolishing it. This consisted of a set of general site unspecific design interventions, such as creating large voids near the entrances to create transparency and bringing daylight deeper into the station halls. The Oostlijn is a functional, comprehensible, and pleasant addition to public space in Amsterdam, with modular design, clean floor, indirect lighting, colour, new materials, and identity. The project was carried out with a limited budget and without interrupting daily commuter traffic.
