COAST (Community of Arran Seabed Trust) has proposed a concept design for a new Marine Discovery Centre at Lamlash Bay on the Isle of Arran. The Centre aims to educate visitors and locals about marine conservation and generate revenue for COAST to fund educational, campaign, and research activities. The building will be a two-storey, energy-efficient, and sustainable structure with an outdoor play area and a direct link to the beach for coastal and marine activities. The lower part of the building will contain the Centre’s reception, gift shop, research areas, and wet laboratory, while the upper part will have a permanent exhibition space, café, and flexible activity areas. The Centre will also have a rooftop viewing platform and play area. The building will be a key asset for sustainable social and economic development on Arran by generating and maintaining local, year-round employment and galvanising marine tourism. The Centre will be a unique visitor attraction that connects the building directly to the Coastal Way and creates a striking focal point in the bay. The Centre will be recognised nationally and internationally for championing community marine conservation.
