Amsteldok, a 19,000 sq m building located along the Amstel river, was designed by architect Hugh Maaskant in 1973 and was Europe’s largest office building at the time. The building has been carefully renovated to allow for maximum height and flexibility in office floors, with a floor-to-ceiling glass facade that allows natural light to illuminate the interior. The building also features green roof terraces at various heights to encourage creativity and collaboration, and shared facilities such as cafes, restaurants, and bars to increase staff wellbeing and encourage movement through the building. A new feature staircase takes clients from reception up to the shared business hub on level 1, and a 352 sqm roof terrace on the ninth floor offers incredible views of the Amstel river and the city. The building’s design allows for flexibility to accommodate changes in the landscape of WPP and its operating companies, such as growth, shrinkage, and mergers. The building has reinvigorated the surrounding residential neighborhood, creating a new buzz in the locale.
