Location: Waiwera, New Zealand.

The Waiwera Thermal Resort, located 45 minutes from Auckland, is being developed to revitalise the once iconic seaside town and provide a unique facility not currently available in New Zealand. The site was historically referred to as ‘Te Rata’ or ‘the doctor’ by local tribes, who used the therapeutic thermal waters for relaxation and healing. The first stage of development involves a 200-key hotel with thermal baths and conference facilities, while the second stage will see the redevelopment of the existing water park and town centre. The building design and colour palette of the rooms and thermal baths are inspired by the Pink and White Terraces, natural wonders of New Zealand destroyed in an eruption in 1886. The terracing of the building and arched form are also inspired by the terraces.
