Hammerson and Ballymore are partnering to develop a new neighbourhood in Shoreditch, regenerating the ten-acre Bishopsgate Goodsyard site. The development will focus on flexible workspace and the creative industries, creating a mixed-use urban quarter. The plans include 5.9 acres of public realm, including a park on top of the historic Braithwaite Viaduct, with landscaped spaces, cafés, restaurants and a hotel. The development will also include a new east-west pedestrian street running from Brick Lane to Shoreditch High Street. The aim is to create an internationally renowned place of exchange, where visitors, residents, workers, innovators and makers can build on the creative vibrancy of the area. The development will provide significant areas of open green park space, as well as smaller areas of publicly accessible places. The heritage assets of the Goodsyard will be opened up and reused to bring shape and character to the development. The street and routes through the site will integrate with the streets that surround the Goodsyard, creating a contextually appropriate urban grain. The development will provide a range of housing types and sizes, including 35% affordable housing, of which 70% will be social rent and 30% will be intermediate. The highline level will provide varied and flexible workspaces across the office campus occupying the western end of the site, creating up to 10,000 new jobs, plus approximately 5,200 during construction.
