Snail Apartments is a new concept for apartments in Manhattan that aims to provide a tranquil and unhurried lifestyle in contrast to the bustling city. The name Snail Apartments was chosen because a snail is never in a rush, yet it gets all its things done. The lower part of the building has thick partitions to create a visual shield and protect against street noise, while the upper part has a large glazed area to reveal a view of the cityscape. The building’s visual image attains individuality thanks to the original glazing, which includes windows with bent, curved glass and bay windows that create a cozy space for reading. The layout solutions for Snail Apartments are based on the PRO-housing concept, which envisages that a dwelling is not limited by the apartment walls. All interior spaces for common use represent a continuation of living space, erasing the boundary between the private and the public. The aim is to provide a new quality of space and architecture that sets a different pace of life, allowing for accuracy of decisions and the precision of every step. The lifestyle of New Yorkers is emphasized, with the importance of having an isolated zone of comfort and privacy in bedrooms and living rooms. The Snail Apartments concept is based on the Slow Food movement, which promotes quality nutrition and is an alternative to fast food. The idea is to embody this concept in architecture, providing a chance to get focused and even to meditate.
