The natural elements of the site, as well as the sense of space, water, and sky, served as inspiration for John Lautner’s Arango House design. This home was designed by John Lautner and Helena Arahuete.
In 1973, this iconic piece of space-age organic architecture was developed. This stunning contemporary home is situated near Acapulco, Mexico. Its enormous floor area is 25,000 square feet. The home is situated on a fairly sloping property with views of Acapulco Bay. An expansive open terrace on the upper story is ringed by a cantilevered moat/railing pool that appears to spill into the water below, giving the impression of an infinite area. Swimming is possible because of the moat’s width and depth.
The home and the driveway are covered by a curved, sloping concrete roof that is anchored into the hill at one end before sweeping over the other end and back to the hill. The roof allows for a fantastic view of the sky and the ocean because it is low on the hillside and high on the Bayside. The enclosed family area and bedrooms are on the ground floor, with a continuous planter/railing along the edge of the decks, and they face the ocean.
