Location: Fontanars dels Alforins, Spain.

Architect: Ramón Esteve Estudio.

The house is located in Fontanars, surrounded by pine forests and grapevine fields. The design seeks to integrate with the environment and is developed from the idea of a shelter with a pitched roof. The entire program is on a single floor, and the ground floor is on the same level as the surrounding croplands. The main body of the house is a fifty-meter longitudinal body with a distinctive silhouette, and a series of different-sized boxes intersect it. The boxes are made of timber and are exclusively used for cladding surfaces. The interior of the cottage consists of a large open basilica-shaped space dominated by a free-standing hearth. The end of this main room opens up outwards becoming a porch with views to the vineyards and the pine forest. The wooden boxes partially penetrate this central space, providing dynamism to its initial longitudinal character. Each box is differently sized and placed in relation to the central room, according to the use that they hold. The furniture is specifically designed for this retreat and shares the same material and modulation. The cottage is closed with exterior doors made with the same planks as the wooden boxes. The materials used in the cottage have a similar texture, and the design pursues a harmonized whole where all the elements share one same language.
