The Curtin Bike Hub is a new facility located at the southern end of the Sir Charles Court Promenade, forming part of Curtin University’s Creative Quarter precinct project. The Bike Hub aims to encourage cycling as a sustainable mode of transport to and from campus, providing secure high-quality bike storage and end-of-trip facilities for approximately 200 bicycles. The facility also includes all-access end-of-trip amenities, an accessible roof deck, and opportunities for collaboration and activation. The design of the Bike Hub was carefully planned to accommodate existing constraints and opportunities, including emergency vehicle access, tree protection zones, and major services infrastructure. The project has had a wider impact on cycling promotion and infrastructure development in Perth, with the two-tier bicycle stacking system being incorporated into new train stations being procured as part of the state government METRONET and Public Transport Authority of WA (PTA) rail projects. The design team has also been invited to present to Architecture students from the Curtin School of Design and Built Environment as part of the guest-in-practice lecture series for the Technology of Design unit. The project has recently been selected for the BAB (Bicycle Architecture Biennial) 2019/20.
