Location: Middelkerke, Belgium.

Architect: ZJA.

DELVA Landscape Architecture | Urbanism, co-collaborator with ZJA in the project, approached the task of constructing a new casino structure on the Middelkerke shore while also bolstering the preexisting sea barrier from the viewpoint of the original landscape. With our plan, we are incorporating a distinctive structure that will serve as a brand-new lighthouse on the water into the current coastline, creating a fresh and creative dune setting. Instead of constructing a standalone casino, we design a landscape that rewrites the historical link between the sea and the seaside town.

The task of constructing a new venue building on Middelkerke’s coastline while also bolstering the preexisting sea barrier was approached from the viewpoint of the original topography. With the design, a brand-new dune landscape is added to the coastline, and its spectacular centrepiece will serve as a brand-new lighthouse by the water. A casino, hotel, restaurant, multipurpose event space, and an underground parking garage are all included in The Venue Building Middelkerke, which also guarantees a car-free zone on street level. The design also contributes to a better public area where the boulevard and Epernay square are united, strengthening the sea embankment and making it car-free.
