Location: Rennes, France.

Architect: Studio Odile Decq.

The new building for the FRAC Bretagne is located in the integrated development zone of Beauregard, in the north-west of Rennes. The building is designed by Odile Decq and is built in harmony with an emblematic work by Aurelie Nemours, L’Alignement du XXI siècle. The building’s outer cubed shape is in keeping with the radical nature of the work by Aurelie Nemours. The building encourages experimentation thanks to its internal architecture and is open to discovery thanks to its opening to the outside, to the light, to nature and to the general public. The architect put great thought into movement inside the building: its simple external form enables the unique rhythm of the interior to be highlighted. The various exhibition spaces are designed to “rotate” around a central atrium, and the visitor’s experience will therefore be different upon every visit. The project of Odile Decq is in line with the will of the FRAC to make the place as flexible as possible, while reserving specific areas for each activity. Thanks to its functionality, it best meets the needs of the fund. In terms of aesthetics, it gives the structure an undeniable attractiveness.
