Gala Avenue Westside is a mixed-use development within the Lujiazui Harbour City project in Shanghai. The site was previously a shipyard operated by the Shanghai Ship Company since the 1800s. The design language of the development combines historical elements, traditional details and modern materials to create a rich sense of experience. The development consists of a near 100-metre-tall office tower and 12 interlocking two to three storey commercial villas. The design aims to create an urban complex that encourages people to spend more time exploring its different zones and green spaces. Benoy provided Master Planning, Architectural Design and Interior Design services for the development. The team focused on diversity as a key pillar in their design process, evident in the injection of dynamic dimensions, heights and depth which ultimately provides visitors with a unique experience based journey. The Interior Design of the various components will also be completed by Benoy and follow an elegant yet minimalist design and material palette. The interior elements were inspired by the traditional Shikumen-style found in Shanghainese structures together with modern design methods to create a distinct ambience for each of the buildings.
