Hverfisgata 71 had a storefront next to a timber house called H71a. Photographer Sigurgeir Sigurjónsson used the home in 2001 as a studio, office, and archive thanks to Studio Granda. The unsoundly constructed business was left empty. The shop volume has been rebuilt in H71a with interior concrete construction. Wherever possible, the preexisting surfaces and finishes were used. The bottom floor was dug down to the level of the basement of the timber home in order to include a full-height garage/loading bay for the publishing side of the business. A gallery on the top floor is at the same height as the residence. On the stairway connecting the two levels, the entrance is at the halfway point. The house’s attic provides access to the roof, which is a city terrace. The former business and the house are both referenced in the corrugated steel covering and the wooden accents.
