Huangshan House is a 2,000 sqm piece of land overlooking the Hengjiang River, a major river that forms an important part of the identity of local residents. It is an example of man over nature, fueled by and built by the vanity of man, disrupting the flow of the river. Huangshan House is a home and piece of architecture that explores and contributes to the dialogue between man and nature through three key strategies: the building form, the building envelope, and the spatial characteristics. The building form is organic, while the building envelope is seamless, filtered, framed, and as a barrier. The relationship between the protected internal spaces and nature was critical in the space-planning of Huangshan House, as the client practises as a botanist in Anhui province, known for its botanical richness and diversity.
