The Jing An Mixed-Use Development is a new landmark in the Jing An district of Shanghai. The complex features two towers, retail space, a hotel, an event center, and office amenities. The design integrates itself within the urban context of the city, with open air walkways and gardens that evoke a sense of continuity with the surrounding pedestrian scale. The vertical massing of the podium and towers creates a distinct design vocabulary that establishes a direct dialogue with the surrounding skyline. The use of glass, metal, and stone cladding finishes, along with a family of architectural grid patterns, creates an additional level of character and visual interest for the complex. The project was designed by a team including TeamWong & Ouyang, Benoy, and Hirsch/Bedner.
