The Studium project is a library and student union building designed to foster sociability and sharing. It is located at the interface between the historic centre and the Campus de l’Esplanade, marking the entrance to the campus from the city. It has two faces: a transparent ground floor and a main body with sinuous forms. Le Studium is a university library, learning centre and press designed by Jean-Pierre Lott and Louise Van Grieken for the Université de Strasbourg. It has a transparent podium overlooking the public space, rooms containing collections and reading rooms organised on two levels, and a cantilevered floor that blocks direct sunlight. The façade is composed of large sunshades and brise-soleils that filter natural light and provide views overlooking the city.
