The city of Mouvaux in France has created a central area that includes a school, housing, a sports hall, and a cultural space. The cultural space is located in a visible area and includes a performance hall, meeting rooms, and spaces for artistic practice. The building is oriented to take advantage of sunlight and is divided into two parts by a glass “street” that serves as the entrance hall. The design is influenced by the geometry of the site, with repeated trapezoidal shapes throughout the building. The performance hall is highly modular, with movable seating and a stage that can be lowered to be level with the floor. At night, the building becomes a glowing lantern in the cityscape.
