Architect: Change Architects
The OCT Chaohu Natural and Cultural Centre is a cultural and tourist complex located in Chaohu, Anhui province, China. It aims to showcase the natural and cultural heritage of the Chaohu Lake area, including its history, traditional architecture, and scenic beauty. The centre features various exhibits, performance spaces, restaurants, and shops. Additionally, it provides opportunities for eco-tourism activities such as boating, fishing, and bird watching. The complex is developed by the Overseas Chinese Town (OCT) Group, a leading Chinese real estate and tourism company. It was completed in 2022.
The outward shape of the mountain and the contour of the soil project the general layout and heights of the building. On this specific building block, the architects started to implement an imaginative and exciting concept about a wiggly worm in the ground: the inside and outside of structures are divided by wormholes created when the worms crawl through them. The architect hopes and intentionally creates the wormholes by piercing worms into the surface of the building. The location of the viewing platform is created by this node organically.
