The Bonifacio district in Manila is the most economically prosperous area in the city, and the Philippine National Petroleum Corporation and the Ministry of Energy are located there. A new development was requested to replace the existing office space and create a public urban complex with fashion and entertainment venues, as well as a demonstration of green technology and sustainable development. The design concept is inspired by the courtyard of the existing office building, and the building has a three-dimensional O-shaped design. The 400,000-square-metre urban Mega complex includes spaces for offices, apartments, hotels, businesses, and conferences. The project highlights include an open-air roof-top conference center, south-facing terraces with private swimming pools and landscaped gardens, an elevated courtyard on the roof of the shopping mall, and a concave glass swimming pool and man-made beach. The project mainly adopts passive designs to combat the hot and humid climate in Manila, such as natural shading, natural lighting, and ventilation. The landscape courtyard is integrated with stormwater management and rainwater reclamation systems to reduce the heat island effect and regulate the microclimate.
