Petra Roasting Co., a popular coffee shop in Istanbul, Turkey, has approached a design firm to create a new location at the Maslak Mudo Concept store at the Giz 2000 Tower. The new location will have 78 sqm of interior space and an additional 110 sqm of outdoor space. The design proposal focuses on optimizing function within the space, flexibility, and adaptability of the design, while staying true to Petra’s design principles and offering a unique experience. Petra’s previous locations followed a key principle but differed in design choices to offer customers a unique experience. The design firm chose to break through the kiosk design idea and create a space within a space, embodying its functions within and offering visual unity. The structure is held together with 10×10 steel bars positioned at angles that follow the existing structure, giving dynamism to the space. The coffee shop is comprised of three parts, the kitchen, sales counter, and bar, defined regarding optimization of space, circulation, and ventilation. The back wall serves as a structural artwork with its parametric design, creating dynamic movement within the shell and becoming the focal point of the project. The new Petra location is designed in a completely new, unique, and exciting way while carrying strong traces of its origin roots and commercial identity.
