Location: Tilburg, Netherlands.
Architect: cepezed.
The Textile Museum in Tilburg, Netherlands, underwent a renovation and expansion project led by cepezed to address an image problem and become a leading knowledge and expertise institute in the field of textiles. The renovation focused on retaining the distinctive and characteristic elements of the historic textile factory while introducing new facilities and functions, such as a foyer and museum shop. The expansion included a modern glass building with a visible steel construction and a smaller volume for gatherings and educational purposes. A depository for the Regional Archive was also built behind the weaving mill. The new-build components reflect the craftsmanship of the existing buildings and make references to the museum’s textile background through textile applications in the ceilings and installation facilities. The project was completed in 2007 and attracted considerable public attention, putting the museum firmly back on the map.
