DP Architects designed the new premises for Heartware Network, a registered charity youth organization in Singapore. The design goal was to create a space where youths can gather, interact, and participate. The project explores how design can be used as a powerful tool to reach out to the youths of today and influence the way they reimagine the environment. The design team applied three key design strategies to create an open, inviting, and interactive workspace. The first strategy was to create a canvas that allows a sense of ownership and participation. The design acts as a canvas for customisable spaces via tiered bleachers on wheels, loose seating, and individual pedestals. The second strategy was to use a palette of youthful ambition and energy. The design team used a neutral palette of plywood, white laminate, and shades of grey for the base of the space and incorporated accent colours that align with Heartware Network’s corporate colours. The third strategy was to create a stage for being socially responsible, eco-conscious, and smart. Green and smart elements were incorporated within the space to allow for the youth to be aware of the global movement of smart and green. The design of Heartware Network’s new office is a reflection of the energy of the youth today and aims to give the youths who volunteer with the organisation an empowered voice.
